The Lekki Love & Secrets
Living in Lekki, Lagos, my life seemed perfect after marrying Chuka, my love. One Thursday, I returned from shopping at the Palms Shopping Mall, excited to show Chuka my new outfits for our weekend trip to Epe Resort. As I entered our home, I overheard Chuka talking in the study. He said, “I can’t wait to see you tonight, my love.”
I was shocked because Chuka had a business dinner that night in Victoria Island. Was he cheating on me? I couldn’t ignore my doubts.
I decided to find out the truth. I pretended to have a headache and let Chuka go to his dinner alone. Once he left, I wore simple clothes and took a taxi to follow his car. We trailed Chuka’s car across the Lekki Toll Gate and into Victoria Island. He stopped at a Oriental Hotel and met a beautiful woman wearing a wide-brimmed hat. They hugged and went into the hotel together.
I felt angry and waited in the taxi. When Chuka came out, I went to him and asked, “How could you, Chuka?”
He was surprised to see me. “What are you doing here?” he asked.
I told him I followed him and saw everything. “How long has this been going on?” I asked.
Chuka looked sad and told me the truth. “That woman is my sister, Ada. She was in the UK, and we lost touch. She wanted to meet me, and I wanted to surprise you by having her at our weekend trip. I didn’t want you to find out before. I never meant for you to think I was cheating on you.”
I was shocked and felt both relief and guilt. My husband wasn’t cheating on me; he was trying to surprise me with his long-lost sister. The Lekki lifestyle had made me doubt my love, but now I knew Chuka was truly committed to me.
