MAN KILLS WIFE OUT OF JEALOUSY, CLAIMS SHE WAS SLEEPING AROUND
Akinyemi Edgar Koja, a bricklayer, who had been on the run after he allegedly strangled his wife, Ajoke, to death in their apartment in Agemowo area of Badagry, last December, has recently been arrested by the Police in Lagos.
Akinyemi Koja claimed in his own words, “I killed my wife because she was sleeping around”
According to reliable sources, he was picked up in an undisclosed area around Lagos Island where he had taken refuge since the incident occurred.
During interrogation, however, the suspect stated that he had carried out the act out of jealousy, following what he described as his late wife’s adulterous acts.
It should be recalled that after allegedly killing his 28-year-old wife, he had dumped her corpse inside a well within his area , before taking to his heels. It was gathered that there had been a lingering quarrel between the couple until this terrible incident occurred.
In a bid to arrest the fleeing husband, the Lagos State Police Command had declared him wanted. Police sources hinted that he was traced to his hideout through telephone calls.
Anonymous sources further hinted that the suspect contacted some of his relatives to plead with his in-laws on his behalf so that the matter could be settled amicably.
Ajoke’s murder, it was reported, could not have been unconnected with her intention to travel out of the country. But the suspect alleged during interrogation at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department(SCIID) that his late wife was having extra marital affairs.
Explaining how he carried out this heinous act, the suspect said:
“I strangled her at night while she was sleeping. She was sleeping around with other men because she felt I am a poor man and she did not hide it. That fateful night, I suffocated her with pillows. When I discovered she was dead, I dumped her body inside a well close to our apartment. Then, I ran away to make it look like I was not around when it happened.”
As at Tuesday, the suspect was charged before Magistrate’s Court 12, Ebute Meta, for murder, from where he was remanded in prison custody by the Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin Williams. The case was adjourned to March 28 for hearing.
